At a time when savings<\/strong> and environmental care<\/strong> should be a constant we find energy management<\/strong> as an ally, energy management is the sum of planned measures that are carried out to achieve the highest energy efficiency<\/strong> while maintaining comfort levels in offices and buildings, or production levels in factories.<\/span><\/p>

If we recall <\/span>energy efficiency<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0aims to reduce energy consumption<\/strong> through efficient energy use, optimizing production processes<\/strong> to produce more goods and services using the same or less energy.<\/span><\/p>

To achieve this reduction objective, there is what is known as Energy Management System<\/strong> (EMS), which is the part of the management system of an organization dedicated to develop and implement its energy policy, as well as to manage<\/strong> those elements of its activities, products or services that interact with the use of energy<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

This system is an organized procedure for forecasting and controlling energy consumption<\/strong>, which aims to obtain the highest possible energy efficiency<\/strong> without reducing the level of performance obtained.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The effort dedicated by companies in the implementation of an Energy Management System<\/strong> gives them the opportunity to have a self-knowledge that is key regarding the use of energy and what is its potential for savings and improvement.<\/span><\/p>

This self-knowledge provides elements for decision making<\/strong> that will allow them to maintain and increase their competitiveness<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Another issue is that an EMS<\/strong> provides a means to actively manage energy<\/strong>, and to have orderly documentation and reliable records on the savings<\/strong> achieved and on the projects being undertaken to achieve the objectives.<\/span><\/p>

Another aspect to be addressed is that an EMS<\/strong> can be certified<\/strong> or not.<\/span><\/p>

Regardless of whether it is certified, an Energy Management System<\/strong> by itself, is always beneficial to the organization because:<\/span><\/p>

  • It allows to identify and prioritize<\/strong> the energy aspects of the organization.<\/span><\/li>
  • Evaluates compliance<\/strong> with all legal requirements<\/strong> related to its energy aspects.<\/span><\/li>
  • It establishes targets for energy efficiency improvement and optimization<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>
  • Establishes effective procedures for control and monitoring<\/strong> of energy processes.<\/span><\/li>
  • Involves all personnel in energy management<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>
  • It constitutes an effective tool to follow up actions resulting from energy audits<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

    Therefore, the certification of an EMS ensures by a third party the systematic control and monitoring of energy aspects<\/strong> and the continuous improvement<\/strong> of energy performance. This contributes to a more efficient and sustainable<\/strong> use of energy, giving confidence in the management system<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

    The principles of UNE-ISO 50001<\/strong> are inspired by EN 16001<\/strong>. Therefore, companies certified in 16001 will be prepared for ISO 50001.<\/span><\/p>

    The methodology requires the establishment of concrete objectives, placing together actions and resources to control and reduce energy use, verifying energy savings<\/strong> and planning improvements.\u00a0<\/span>
