The International Organization for Standardization<\/strong> (known by the acronym ISO<\/strong>) is an organization for the creation of international standards<\/strong> composed of various national standards organizations.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>It is common for the standards and certifications<\/strong> that the International Standards Organization (ISO) defines and develops to often become law<\/strong> or form the basis for industry standards, an example of this is ISO 50001<\/strong>.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>ISO 50001 is the most widely used corporate energy management standard in the world. The certification of an Energy Management System<\/strong> according to ISO 50001, helps organizations to implement an energy policy<\/strong> and to properly manage<\/strong> the energy aspects derived from their activity, such as services, facilities, products, among others, which translates into real and quantifiable energy cost savings<\/strong> in organizations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This standard provides the necessary tools to identify the most energy-consuming activities that represent an \u00abenergy and economic leakage<\/strong>\u00ab. Once identified, organizations activate a plan of measures to minimize the energy consumption<\/strong> of their own facilities and systems in an integrated manner, while maximizing their energy efficiency<\/strong>.<\/span>

<\/span>The ISO 50001<\/strong> standard provides the following improvements:<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>– <\/span>Structural improvements<\/strong>: Improves alignment with other management systems, making it easier for organizations to integrate them.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>– <\/span>Greater impact on continuous improvement<\/strong>: Emphasizes the need to work on continuous improvement as a key factor of an energy management system, this improvement being more clearly related to the information derived from the analysis and evaluation of the system.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>– <\/b>Greater focus on the business<\/strong>: It focuses on the business, thanks to the implementation of a more strategic and tactical Energy Planning Process. It also pays attention to understanding the organization and its context.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>– <\/b>Improved energy performance<\/strong>: Elevates the ability to expose energy performance improvement by increasing metrics with an energy performance indicator, an energy performance indicator benchmark and energy performance improvement.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>– <\/b>Planning, analysis and execution<\/strong>: Influences data capture, planning of the EMS and its energy processes, as well as energy performance improvement, compliance with legal requirements and achievement of energy targets.<\/span>

In Mexico there are several organizations that regulate the regulations related to the use of energy, such as the National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy<\/strong> (CONUEE), which is a decentralized administrative agency of the Ministry of Energy<\/strong>, created through the Law for energy harnessing and whose main objective is to promote energy efficiency<\/strong> and act as a technical agency for the sustainable<\/strong> use of energy<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

Adem\u00e1s, existen las Normas Oficiales Mexicanas<\/strong> (NOM<\/strong>), las cuales son el instrumento por el cual se regulan productos, procesos y servicios ofrecidos por el sector p\u00fablico y privado. Las NOM son regulaciones t\u00e9cnicas de car\u00e1cter obligatorio<\/strong> que establecen especificaciones y procedimientos para garantizar que los productos, procesos y servicios cumplan con requisitos m\u00ednimos<\/strong> de informaci\u00f3n, seguridad, calidad, entre otros.In addition, there are the Official Mexican Standards<\/strong> (NOM<\/strong>), which are the instrument through which products, processes and services offered by the public and private sectors are regulated. NOMs are mandatory<\/strong> technical regulations that establish specifications and procedures to ensure that products, processes and services comply with minimum requirements<\/strong> for information, safety, quality, among others.<\/span><\/p>
