In times past, instruments such as the sundial were relied upon to obtain data, such as information about the weather and solar influence at different times of the year and geographic locations. Although cultural, social and even religious factors can influence architectural design<\/strong>, quantitative aspects become particularly relevant when making decisions<\/strong> early in the creative process, during construction and throughout the life cycle of a structure. It is therefore essential to collect and process relevant information<\/strong>, including details on location, solar incidence, occupancy capacity, occupant interactions, energy efficiency and carbon emissions, among others.<\/span><\/p>

In today’s world, technological advances such as Artificial Intelligence<\/strong> (AI) and machine learning have revolutionized architecture by providing tools for generative design and new ways to collect, process and interpret data. This includes running simulations to create test scenarios and making comparisons between them. These tools enrich the design and operation process with accurate information, driving the evolution and development of the architecture field. It offers enlightening simulations that address aspects such as HVAC sizing, daylighting, thermal comfort, energy consumption and carbon emissions, as well as assessing the potential impact of renewable energy systems. Results are quickly generated using analysis engines. Users can perform comparative analyses of massing, design and envelope options by modeling simple geometries in SketchUp.
