The Jeddah Tower was designed to surpass the iconic Burj Khalifa<\/strong> in the United Arab Emirates, which so far holds the title of the world’s tallest skyscraper. The project was conceived by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture<\/strong> and started in 2013. Interestingly, Adrian Smith also played a crucial role in the design of the Burj Khalifa when he worked at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The competition to outdo the Burj Khalifa’s own creator added an extra element of excitement to the Jeddah Tower.<\/span><\/p>

However, the construction of Jeddah Tower has faced multiple challenges and delays throughout its history. In 2018, there was a pause in construction, and subsequently, the COVID-19 pandemic also affected the project’s progress. In addition, the initial contractor was replaced during the 2017-2019 Saudi purge, adding layers of complexity to this monumental undertaking.<\/span><\/p>

The developer behind Jeddah Tower, the Jeddah Economic Company<\/strong> (JEC), is committed to complete this ambitious project and has been looking for new contractors to complete it. Several international contractors have been invited to submit full proposals, and an exact timeline for completion of the project is expected to be defined before the end of 2023.
