Hydrosanitary installations are the whole set of pipes for cold water, hot water, drains, vents, manholes, sanitary devices, among others, which serve to supply us with clean water and eliminate it through the drains.
The purpose is to safely dispose of wastewater in such a way as to meet the requirements of the corresponding standards and regulations of the place where the installation is being carried out.
The internal hydraulic installation is considered from the potable water meter inwards. On the other hand, the internal sanitary installation is considered from the manhole box located on the sidewalk inwards.
A) Potable water system
-POTABLE WATER METER
This is the instrument used to measure the amount of water we consume and to calculate each month’s billing. This meter is installed and manipulated only by authorized personnel.
In multi-family buildings, although the concessionary company installs only one water meter for the entire building, internally you can opt for the installation of internal control meters to verify the water consumption of each department.
-SUPPLY
It is the set of pipes and valves that go from the water meter to the general water faucet.
-INTERNAL COLD WATER NETWORK
It is the set of pipes and valves that go from the general water faucet to all the points where water supply is required: bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, garden, and others. In each wet environment (such as the bathroom, kitchen, etc.), a water shut-off valve must be installed, which serves to shut off or stop the water supply to the environment in case repairs or maintenance is required. The network is installed in the formwork, that is to say, at the moment when the ceiling or the lightened slab is molded before filling the concrete.
-COLD WATER POINTS
Each place where the cold water arrives is called “cold water point“, and groups all the materials needed for this: pipes, nipples (plastic pieces that connect from one pipe to the other), elbows, among others.
B) Drainage and ventilation system
-SUPPLY
The final manhole box is the place where all the drainage of our building will arrive. From this box the drainage will be sent to the public network. That is to say, towards the pipes, external tanks, outside the house, and more precisely in the street.
-INTERMEDIATE MANHOLE
If the internal drainage network is very long or has many branches or drainage points, intermediate manholes will be installed before reaching the final manhole.
-DRAINAGE AND VENTILATION NETWORK
All sewage or drainage water from a house will be evacuated through a series of pipes that will lead to the manholes. For the correct evacuation of these waters it is necessary and obligatory that each point of drainage has the support of a ventilation pipe.
Ventilation is a basic component for the correct functioning of the drainage system. It is a factor that provides fluidity to the drainage and does not obstruct it.
-DRAINAGE NETWORK BEFORE EMPTYING THE FLOOR AND INSTALLING THE TOILETS
It is basic to consider a distance of 30.5 cm from the drain point of the toilet to the wall. If the wall is not placed at the proper distance, the toilet cannot be installed.
General recommendations
It is essential that the pipes and fittings you select are of good quality and of a recognized brand with a certified warranty. This will ensure that all joints or connections fit correctly without forcing them.
If hoses are used to irrigate gardens, it is necessary to verify that they do not have holes that can generate water leaks.
When installing any type of faucet, it should be verified that it is of good quality with a certified guarantee. This will prevent short-term wear of internal parts that could cause leaks.
